Hungarian Partridge Skin
Most fly tying shops will have Hungarian
Partridge feathers in stock or they can easily
be ordered.

Hungarian partridges are valued for the buggy appearance of the feathers when tied on a fly. They are often used for tails, legs or hackle on wet flies.

When possible it is better to buy complete skins that include a wider selection of feathers. Most skins sold commercially are average quality, but every once in a while will see a premimum quality skin and would reccommend buying it on sight, because it might not be there tomorrow.

Hungarian partridge can be dyed a varity of colors, but most often are sold natural. It is just our personal opinion that in this case the natural color is perfect.

When buying complete bird skins, the skin should be pliable and scrapped clean of any residue.

Commercially available bird skins and feathers bought in a fly tying shop will be clean and have uniform color when dyed. If acquiring bird skins and feathers from other sources then precautions should to be taken to avoid insects or other pests that could infest your fly tying supplies.
